Dr John Ashdown-Hill was the academic who discovered the mtDNA of King Richard III, resulting in the search and discovery of the mortal remains of the King in the Social Services car park in Leicester in 2012 - the site of the former Greyfriars Friary.
Without John's groundbreaking DNA research, the search for Richard III would never have began or the King discovered, so we hold this day in memory of a very special man.
